Museum of Sensory & Movement Experiences reopens
Mysteriously founded through the will of a reclusive old genius, this new experiential museum was pre-formulated for a social-distancing community with movement and togetherness in mind.
With local curator Marco Pinter chosen to make Havernathy’s dying wish a reality, this magical space promises to be an energy-filled mecca of interactive art and kinetic wonder.
Modeled in part after successful experiential museums such as Meow Wolf (Santa Fe, Denver & Las Vegas), the Museum of Sensory & Movement Experiences (a.k.a. MSME, pronounced “Miss Me”) is conveniently located in La Cumbre Plaza in Santa Barbara, and features nine interactive art experiences inside, as well as a variety of non-interactive work in the front display and entrance area.
The museum is devoted to unlocking the power of movement in each of us, through experiential artworks using projections, sound, voice and body movement. Pinter’s “Fluid Connections”, located just inside the museum, exemplifies the mission. A projected silhouette of the visitor's body extends into space through extensions that are long, fluid and floating. When two strangers are each interacting with the piece, even 6 feet apart, and their fluid, projected limbs cross paths, they unexpectedly join together and become connected. Energy visibly pulses between the bodies.
Eight more interactive experiences lie deeper within the museum, working with voice, heartbeat, movement and body heat.
As the world changes, so does art. But a creative community will stay constant. We invite you to enter a new, safe place to interact with art. Hands-free but refreshingly connected.
